Why Vedic Knowledge Matters Today
Why Vedic Knowledge Matters Today
The Eternal Relevance of Vedic Knowledge
Because our ancestors were not only
advanced, they were light years ahead. The sages were scientists, philosophers
and thinkers who understood the deepest realities of the world. They did not
play guessing games with the universe: they knew things that we are only
beginning to understand, hundreds of years later. They built dams and wells
thousands of years ago, which are still in use. What can modern structures
boast of? Architectural marvels like our temples are still unmatched. Temples
carved out of a single stone, intricate craftsmanship, geometric perfection,
massive structures without a single flaw. Stairs, floating pillars, can you
count the wonders they created? Talking about metallurgy, we have iron pillars
that are thousands of years old and still stand without decay or rust. We have
Shivalingas made of mercury (even today it is almost impossible to shape
mercury into a solid form). Well-planned cities like Ayodhya, Kashi,
Vijayanagar and many others. Is this just a coincidence? No, it was knowledge.
Books on architecture, astronomy,
philosophy, metallurgy, astrology, detailed analysis of the five elements,
literature, etc. Can any other civilization boast of this?
Eye surgery, Jaipur feet, plastic
surgery... these are in our writings. And don't get me started on naturopathy,
meditation, yoga...
Sanskrit, the mother of all languages, was
seen by scholars as the best language for coding.
In the cultural ethos of ancient India,
women were not bound by suppression or restrictions; they were revered as
bearers of knowledge and compassion. Texts like the Rigveda mention women like
Gargi and Maitreyi participating in deep philosophical debates, whose intellect
was as valuable as that of the great sages of their time. Women were free to
express themselves through dress, art, and knowledge, while also engaging in
spiritual disciplines that elevated them to a respectable position in society.
In addition, people were trained to
practice self-control and inner mastery. The ancient Gurukul system emphasized
purification of the senses and celibacy—not as suppression, but as a conscious
redirection of energy toward knowledge, service, and higher ideals. Both the
Manusmriti and the Upanishads advise men to view women not as objects of
desire, but as embodiments of divinity, worthy of reverence and respect.
Ancient Indian society thus envisioned a
harmony in which women embodied freedom of expression and men embodied
discipline of the senses, and together they created a culture that valued
balance, virtue, and the pursuit of truth over the indulgence of fleeting
emotions.
So we see that our scriptures are not
religious books but a treasure trove of knowledge on all matters related to
life. The Vedic plan of life which is relevant even today because it is not
limited by time. It is based on the understanding of nature and all its
elements.
Ram, Krishna, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Mira
Bai, Chanakya, Gautama Buddha, Aryabhata... great philosophers, warriors,
kings, extraordinary teachers, you name it, we had it. These ancient texts
created such great minds.
